December 2020 – Update on Peer Review in East Lancashire
The peer review scheme in East Lancashire has now been operating for several months and we wanted to share an update with you.
The aim of peer review is to share experiences and identify areas in which changes can be made, with the objective of improving the quality of service offered to patients. We currently have two Peer Review groups running and we would like to make the opportunity available to all interested colleagues. It is a great forum for all but most certainly for singlehanded practitioners, especially if you don’t have easy access to peer review opportunities. The meetings are held every 3 or 4 months, decided on by each group to suit their needs. To date, we have had 4 meetings and the topics were - TMD; Endodontics; Implementing the BSP Guidelines and Management of Fractured Teeth.
The meetings are run by GDPs for GDPS and provide a forum for frank discussion and sharing of current practice. It has proved very useful sharing new information that benefits patients and has had positive feedback, If you would be interested in being part of the next group(s) please contact Kiaran Weil, or if you would like more information please do phone her for a chat. Alternatively, you can also contact Vicky Buller, LDC Secretary. It’s a great way to keep up to date, share ideas and find out how colleagues are dealing with challenges in a non-judgemental, supportive environment. Each group choses their own topic depending on their interests and needs, the topics for our next 2 meetings are Recordkeeping & Consent and Paediatric Dentistry. Due to Coid-19, we have been holding the meetings online, which has been beneficial for all group members. We do hope you’ll join us.
